What does the future hold? People ask me this all the time and I usually say “I don’t have a crystal ball.” So, in an effort to get the crystal ball everyone is looking for I went to two very cool lectures/seminars.
Joel Burslem from InmanNews was the speaker at the first seminar: Web 2.0 and the future of real estate marketing.
Some of the Highlights:
By 2011 87% of people will be watching video online [See my first effort here] You can also go to The Portland Report for my serious yet fun show.
People like phototours on blogs - Check out a Hawthorne condo I have listed
Joel predicts that blogs and online video will become a much more powerful tool for people buying or selling homes. I will be adding these ideas to the marketing plans for my listings. Another great idea was listing info syndicators - that’s a big word that means I put the info about a listing in one place and it then gets put in a bunch of other places [websites in this case].
Stay tuned for The Future: Part two next week - highlights from a 2008 economic forecast featuring Dr. Bill Conerly

Congrats Goose Hollow you were just named #9 by CNN/Money in their list of top neighborhoods to retire. Portland keeps showing up on these magazine’s best lists. Lists for walking, riding bikes, nature, music [new indie music capital], and now it’s also a great place to get old.
When I first moved to Portland it seemed everyone worked part time and spent lots of time socializing so retirees lounging at cafes and taking in a show should feel right at home. For those of you thinking about Portland from some place far away I’d like to correct one little thing in this article; that would be the “con” of being outside the city center. Goose Hollow is considered by Portlanders to be IN the city center [unless you want to live in an office tower].
If you want to see what’s in the city center just plug your email into my home search and pick the area ”City Center” or you can pick specifically the neighborhood ”Goose Hollow”
I love this part of town and have considered moving here - condos are reasonable but parking is a necessity if you have a car. Homes in this area area pricey but most of them are large, grand places that justify the price tag.

It’s that time of year again in Portland; the weather cools, the sweaters and flannel sheets come out of their Summer slumber, and the Horses start racing at Portland Meadows. [I almost broke even!] I wanted to share this photo taken from my office today of NE Seventh Ave. This is one of my favorite times of year and I wanted to share an idea with you regarding marketing your home.
One of the best ways to market your home is to make sure that buyers connect it to a positive emotion. This is why some open houses have fresh cookies and coffee, or the smell of freshly cleaned laundry is in the air. Two of the best times to photograph your home are Spring when everything is blooming and green and right now! The Fall colors always bring thoughts of holiday cheer and all the season brings.
So, take a minute to get some good photos of your home while the trees are full and bright!
